Make it easier for seniors to alight from buses

I hope the new bus operators, Tower Transit and Go-Ahead, will train their drivers to stop their buses near the kerb to make it easier and safer for passengers to alight at bus stops.

Letters have been written to the Forum page and feedback has been given to bus operators SBS Transit and SMRT, but there has been no improvement in the driving skills of bus drivers who still continue to stop the buses about half a metre or more away from bus-stop kerbs.

It is very difficult for elderly folk or those with weak legs to stretch out their legs to step onto the kerb when alighting from the bus.

They would have to step onto the road from the bus and then get onto the kerb.

It is even more difficult on rainy days and chances of falling down from the steps are high.
