It was with much sadness that I read about another fatal accident resulting from a driver running the red light ("Woman dies after being hit by speeding car"; June 9).
More speed and red-light cameras have been installed, rightly so, to try to curb speeding.
However, there is an inherent danger that drivers may accelerate instead of slow down when approaching a traffic junction, in their haste to avoid being caught by the cameras.
Instead of installing more red-light cameras, perhaps it might be better to install traffic countdown timers to indicate how much time is left before the lights turn red.
This will give motorists more time to react in a safer manner.
