Fire blankets a good option for tackling kitchen fire

Fire blankets would be especially useful in kitchens where cooking is done over an open flame (Law on fire extinguishers for homes needed, by Mr Phillip Tan Fong Lip; June 27).

If a fire started from, say, oil on the stove, I don't believe I could cope with unscrewing an extinguisher from the wall and dealing with the steps required for successful operation.

But I can envisage seizing a fire blanket to throw over the flames.
