SingPost readies for sales and holiday season by adding trucks, delivery staff

SINGAPORE - Major shopping periods like the 9.9 sales and the Christmas season usually cause parcel volumes to surge by as much as 60 per cent, Singapore Post has found.
To meet the increased demand, the postal service provider said on Sept 8 that it will more than double its fleet of delivery trucks leading into the end of 2025.
In addition, it will sort parcels at its facilities seven days a week, up from the current six. It will also expand its network of 800 full-time delivery staff by adding up to 100 workers.
During the peak e-commerce period, logistics companies are challenged to meet a surge in demand from major e-commerce platforms, local retailers and sellers, said Ms Neo Su Yin, SingPost’s group chief operating officer.
She observed that a significant proportion of parcels are sent from overseas markets.
“This demands agility and rigorous resource management to meet service expectations within tight timelines,” she added.
Starting from Sept 8, SingPost will deploy eight more supplementary 7.3m-long trucks, boosting its current fleet of six.
It said it will adjust the number of trucks deployed in the days following the 9.9 sales to reflect “parcel volume trends”.
SingPost said some new sorting equipment will also be operational from November, in time for the 11.11 sales. This will increase the number of small parcels sorted a day at its Tampines e-commerce logistics facility, from 100,000 to 200,000.
The installation of sorting equipment is part of a $30 million investment that also includes renovations of the 553,000 sq ft Tampines site, which SingPost announced in March 2025.
The equipment will sort up to 300,000 small parcels a day when it is fully operational. The investment addresses a key pain point, as around 70 per cent of e-commerce shipments are small parcels that can fit into a letterbox.
The Tampines e-commerce facility can separately sort up to 100,000 large parcels a day.
SingPost has also been exploring ways to broaden its e-commerce services. Earlier this month, it expanded POPStop
E-commerce retailers can also ship their products at more than 160 of these convenience stores.
POPStop service counters will also allow customers to buy basic shipping supplies such as SingPost’s smartpac packaging, which includes local postage and tracking, and prepaid postage labels.

“From 9.9 sales through to 10.10, 11.11, Black Friday, and Christmas, we are scaling up with dedicated people and investments to capture growth opportunities, and reinforce SingPost’s leadership in Singapore’s e-commerce logistics market,” she added.
