The higher cost of living may not have kept most of us from joining the long queues at lottery booths, but it is certainly prompting more people to rein in their spending on lady luck.

Indeed, for the first time in a long while, inflation and higher borrowing costs appear to have imparted a sense of prudence to many people, with less money being splurged on things beyond their means.
