Economy recovering, but jobs outlook uncertain

Work landscape changing due to rapid pace of automation and work-from-home trend

Human resource specialists suspect that after a year of massive job cuts and furloughs - unpaid leave of absence - the next in line for the axe could be job perks such as medical benefits, paid holidays and transport allowances. In fact, the increased interest in hiring new staff who would permanently work from home is the idea that they would come relatively cheap as they would not qualify for the various benefits a full-time employee gets. Singapore's economy is on the mend after suffering its worst recession last year, but the employment outlook remains clouded.

Even after encouraging data for November, there are enough reasons to be cautious about any surge in hiring intentions, at least until global travel can safely resume.
