For almost a century, charcoal seller Tan Hiap Hong has occupied a shophouse on Serangoon Road. It is now the last of its kind and soon to go after the shophouse was recently sold for $5.28 million.

SINGAPORE - Time seems to stand still the moment you step into Tan Hiap Hong, the only charcoal shop to have survived for close to a century in Singapore.

Located at the junction of Serangoon Road and Balestier Road, the shop, with its inconspicuous shopfront, can easily be missed.
