Hong Kong – Vantage Data Centers has secured a US$1.6 billion (S$2.05 billion) investment to help expand its business in the Asia-Pacific region, including the acquisition of a data centre campus in Malaysia.
The investment was led by an affiliate of Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, both of which are existing investors, Vantage said in a statement on Sept 11.
Vantage, which is also backed by US alternative asset manager DigitalBridge Group, said it would buy Yondr Group’s data centre campus in the Malaysian state of Johor.
The facility is one of the largest of its kind in South-east Asia with more than 300 megawatts, Vantage said. Bloomberg News reported last week that Vantage was considering buying Yondr’s Malaysia assets.
The new funding commitments from GIC and ADIA will help Vantage expand in the Asia-Pacific, where demand for digital infrastructure is growing with the rise of artificial intelligence, the company said.
“This significant investment marks a pivotal milestone in our APAC growth journey,” Jeremy Deutsch, president of Vantage Data Centers, APAC, said in the statement. “Adding the Johor campus to our portfolio will bring our APAC footprint to 1GW of capacity.”
The investment and the Johor acquisition are expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to conditions, Vantage said. BLOOMBERG
