SINGAPORE - When Ms Jessica Cheam first joined the Singapore Institute of Directors nearly a decade ago, she was told by some observers that unless the aspiring director was male and “senior”, or part of “the old boys’ network and play golf”, it would be virtually impossible to get on a company’s board.
At that time, the share of women holding board seats in listed firms was around 10 per cent.
