SINGAPORE – Community spaces, new food offerings and sustainable interior upgrades await visitors at City Square Mall.

The refreshed mall was launched on March 10, after undergoing an extensive $50 million asset enhancement initiative (AEI) that began in September 2023.

The launch was officiated by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development, and Law.

The revamp was conducted across three phases, with the first two phases completed in the first half of 2025. The final phase, which involved the enhancement of City Green park, was completed in the first quarter of 2026.

Upgrades include a community space area inside the mall that will act as a dedicated social service space developed in collaboration with the National Council of Social Service.

The new community space brings together five social service agencies, including the Singapore Children’s Society and The Salvation Army to provide counselling, mental wellness and family support services.

“By integrating these essential services within the mall, it improves accessibility and convenience for the community,” said Mr Sherman Kwek, City Developments Limited (CDL) group chief executive officer. CDL is the mall’s owner and operator.

The enhanced City Green is a 49,000 sq ft urban park integrated with the mall, and features refreshed landscaping, communal spaces, and two new playgrounds designed for families and children.

This space enables the mall to host events like community pop-ups, seasonal markets and local vendor fairs.

In line with sustainability being a core pillar of City Square Mall’s identity, recycled materials have also been integrated into its upgraded interiors.

Lift lobbies and wall finishes from Basement 4 to Level 6 were refurbished using decorative materials made from bamboo chopsticks, bubble wrap and polyethylene terephthalate bottles, while handrails removed during renovation works were repurposed into benches and feature walls.

Following the completion of the AEI, City Square Mall has achieved almost 100 per cent committed occupancy, driven by strong footfall and healthy leasing momentum, said Mr Kwek.

The revamped mall also features new tenants like Australian cuisine restaurant The Fat Sparrow, Thai cuisine restaurant Sanook Kitchen, and pastry cafe Daydream Desserts, with open dining areas overlooking the atrium.

Level 4 of the mall, which was formerly occupied by the foodcourt, has been transformed into Gastro Square, a 24,000 sq ft dining destination with offerings such as Vietnamese and Sichuan cuisine. The foodcourt has now relocated to Basement 3 with a retro-themed design.

“In turn, this momentum continues to fuel our commitment to creating spaces where people can gather, connect and enjoy meaningful experiences,” said Mr Kwek.

Other malls that are undergoing a revamp include West Mall, which is owned and operated by Singapore Land Group. The mall in Bukit Batok now offers a fresh communal hangout space and new food options, with an upgraded public library set to open in late March.

Frasers Property Singapore is also rolling out new features at its malls such as Causeway Point, Century Square and Northpoint City. The features include roaming customer service staff and a new in-mall digital wayfinding and navigation system, as a way to draw customers looking for retail experiences that go beyond transactions.
