AIA Singapore's chief operating officer Melita Teo said about 10 per cent of insurance claims are rejected, some because customers might have overlooked or forgotten some exclusions in the policy. Pre-authorisation means customers can know within three days if the proposed medical bill will be covered by insurance, she said.

Customers of AIA Singapore will soon get a guarantee of insurance coverage even before they proceed with medical treatment so they know the final bill will be covered without being rejected or requiring an out-of-pocket payment.
This is the result of the insurer's decision to extend pre-authorisation of medical claims to all private non-emergency admissions and day surgeries, after a pilot with panel doctors under AIA.
