WASHINGTON – The US Citizenship and Immigration Services said late on Nov 26 it has stopped processing all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals indefinitely, after two National Guard soldiers were shot and critically wounded in Washington.

US President Donald Trump said the shooting near the White House was “an act of terror,” saying the suspect came from Afghanistan in 2021.

“This heinous assault was an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror,” he said in pre-taped remarks from Florida, where he is spending the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden.”

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services said in a post on X: “The protection and safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission.” REUTERS
