NEW DEHLI – Kerala has reported two confirmed cases of Nipah virus, one from the Malappuram district and the other from the Palakkad district.
The first case involves a 38-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus at the Pune virology laboratory. More than 100 people on the patient’s contact list have been placed in the high-risk category.
She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna. The woman had sought treatment at three different locations, including a clinic near her home, after developing a fever 20 days ago.
The second case involves a child, who recently died. The post-mortem report confirmed that the child was infected with the Nipah virus.
An alert has been issued for the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad.
District collectors have been instructed to make arrangements to declare containment zones if necessary, and helplines at both state and district levels have been activated. THE STATESMAN/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
