Police in India use force to push crowd away from bank

Police in India use batons on a crowd trying to push into a bank in Uttar Pradesh state, after the country abolished some large banknotes.

UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA (REUTERS) - A large crowd of customers had gathered outside a bank in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state.

They were trying to force their way inside when police holding batons charged into the crowd.

Local officials say that one officer has been suspended from duty and another has been transferred.

People have been gathering outside banks in India in order to exchange 500 and 1,000 rupee notes since the its abolishment by the government earlier this month.
