He had served as India’s 13th prime minister from 2004 until 2014.

Dr Manmohan Singh once said Singapore and India "have a common vision and understanding of economic and security issues".

Perhaps because of its emphasis on pluralism and meritocracy – attributes that helped his own rise to national leadership.
