Indian butcher arrested for chopping off son's hand in anger over porn addiction

A 45-year-old butcher from Hyderabad in southern India was so angry that his son had continued to watch pornography despite repeated warnings that he chopped off part of his son's hand on Monday (March 5).

According to local media reports, Mohammed Qayyum Qureshi had used a butcher's knife to commit the act against his 19-year-old son Mohammad Khalid Qureshi.

Khalid, who works for a local cable television operator, had recently bought a smartphone and became addicted to watching movies and pornography, reported the Hindustan Times newspaper.

On Sunday, Mohammad Qayyum discovered his son was watching a porn film and tried to snatch his mobile phone away.

However, Khalid resisted and even bit his father on the hand before leaving home. He returned that night and continued to watch the films.

The next day, father and son got into an argument again.

In a fit of rage, Mohammed Qayyum then picked up the knife and chopped off Khalid's right hand, near the wrist.

Local daily newspaper Deccan Chronicle, quoting the police, said that Khalid was rushed to a private hospital in Chaitanyapuri, where he is undergoing treatment.

However, doctors say his wrist was almost severed from the rest of his hand, which means there is little chance that he will be able to use it.

According to the Hindustan Times, Mohammed Qayyum later surrendered at the Pahadishareef police station, where he was arrested for attempted murder.
