Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invested heavily in improving ties with India's neighbours.

This has ranged from inviting all South Asian leaders to his swearing-in for his first term in 2014 and some of them to the same ceremony last year for his second term, to making multiple visits to the countries in the neighbourhood, including four visits to Nepal in six years.
