- The Indian government’s strong focus on job creation in its latest budget underscores Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategy to tackle the economic challenges that dented his hopes of extending his parliamentary majority in the recent election.

Infrastructure projects were also announced for two states governed by coalition partners of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which lost its decade-old majority in an underwhelming victory in elections earlier this year even as Mr Modi won a third term.
