Gulf ban on travellers from South Asia due to surge of Covid-19 cases leaves many stranded, jobless

DUBAI/NEW DELHI - What was supposed to have been a short break to visit her parents back in Pakistan in April ended up being an indefinite waiting game for Ms Fariha Nasir.

A worrying surge in Covid-19 cases in South Asian countries had already led the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to suspend flights from India and before Ms Nasir could return, Pakistan - along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - were added to that list in May.
