NEW DELHI - The afternoon temperature was balmy, just right for Delhi’s ephemeral spring. But tempers were soaring at a protest in the heart of the Indian capital.

Around 1,000 individuals from Ladakh in north India had gathered on Wednesday to demand a greater role in the daily governance of the high-altitude cold desert region that borders China.
