ALOR SETAR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A 25-year-old woman was accidentally stabbed during an argument with her 16-year-old boyfriend at a rented house.

The incident is said to have occurred at 4am on Saturday (July 8) at the house in Taman Desa Kubang Rotan.

It is learnt that the woman's boyfriend had checked her handphone on Friday night and found previous communication between her and another man.

He confronted her and an argument ensued.

The woman alleged that she was hit by her boyfriend, and she ran to the kitchen and brandished a knife at him.

She said a brief struggle ensued, during which she accidentally stabbed herself on the left side of her rib cage.

The boyfriend then called her stepfather, who rushed to the scene and took her to the hospital.

Police later arrested the boyfriend and a knife was seized from the house.

He has since been remanded for four days for further investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The woman has since been discharged from the hospital and said that she wants to break up with the suspect.
