KOTA KINABALU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A video clip has surfaced on social media showing the dramatic arrest of five suspected drug traffickers as they landed at Sandakan airport in Sabah.

The video shows Customs Department officers calling for backup from airport police to catch one of the suspects who was trying to escape from the airport arrival hall.

The recording was shared among WhatsApp users following the incident, which is believed to have occurred at 9.30am on Tuesday (Feb 27).

When contacted, Sabah Customs director Hamzah Sundang said he was aware of the viral video on social media. However, he declined to comment further as the incident was being investigated but added that a press conference would be held later.

Witnesses at the Sandakan airport claimed that the five men arrived on a flight from Kuala Lumpur. Customs officers immediately arrested them when they were taking their suitcases from the luggage carousel.

One of the suspects tried to run out of the arrival hall but was caught by Customs personnel near the entrance.

It is learnt that five suitcases were seized and the bags are believed to contain syabu.
