Malaysian police have arrested five men after a video of two cars ramming into a crowd of people outside a nightclub in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 29 made the rounds online.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Azry Akmar Ayob was quoted by The Star as saying on Jan 30: “Three more suspects remain at large and are urged to surrender to the police.”
He said the incident was caused by a prior disagreement between the group of suspects and the victims who were out partying.
The Malaysian police have released the names of the suspects still at large: Devindran Muniandy, 25; Ranjith Maniyarasu, 19; and Lavindran Muniandy, 27.
In a media statement on Jan 29, Brickfields police department’s Assistant Commissioner Mashariman Mahmood said that a 24-year-old male witness had lodged a report.
According to the witness, two vehicles – a Toyota Hilux pickup and a Toyota Vios sedan – were seen exiting a carpark before being recklessly driven outside Top Plus Club, which is located in Old Klang Road, around 10km away from the popular KL city centre.
The vehicles ploughed through a group of people outside the club, resulting in at least two injuries, said AC Mashariman, who added that one was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
It was not made clear how serious the injuries were.
The police appealed for witnesses or those with more information of the incident to come forward.
In a video of the incident posted on Facebook, a silver sedan is seen hurtling down a narrow road as pedestrians frantically try to move out of the way. A white pickup can be seen behind the sedan, travelling at an equal pace.
After appearing to make a U-turn into the main road, the two vehicles then ram into more pedestrians, who are incensed by the first incident outside the club.
The two vehicles then drive out of shot of the camera, only to return and ram into the pedestrians – as well as an individual who was on a motorcycle – a third time.
