The critter was delivered to Meta’s office in Bangkok inside a package and it somehow escaped, bi-monthly American tech magazine Wired reported on July 8, citing an internal Meta memo.
It is not known why the animal was mailed to the company, but the package was received by a janitor.
The memo did not detail how the squirrel escaped, but the animal scratched a janitor’s finger, causing a minor injury, before it was caught.
The janitor “responsible for bringing the animal onto the premises” formally acknowledged their misconduct and committed to following office regulations to ensure “such an incident does not recur”, the memo added, as cited by Wired.
Meta declined to comment on the incident.
New York Times tech reporter Mike Isaac tweeted about the incident on July 8.
“Employees are predictably having a field day with it internally. One person created an AI-generated video mimicking an HR training course on squirrel-related office best practices,” he said on X.
Predictably, it generated hilarious responses on the internet.
“That’s a wild employee engagement plan,” said a netizen, while another netizen asked if it managed to improve staff’s morale.
