KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan is the new Puteri Umno chief.
The 39-year-old won in a straight fight with Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim to helm the movement for the 2018-2021 term.
This was announced by Umno's election twitter account at @pemilihanumno2018.
The Pandan Puteri Umno chief was the wing's number two in the previous term.
Some 150,000 delegates from 191 divisions voted for the new chiefs as well as executive council members.
The results for the wanita and youth elections have yet to be announced but it is a tight race between Datuk Noraini Ahmad and Datuk Azizah Dun for the Wanita chief's post.
For Youth, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki seems to be the clear favourite.
Asyraf Wajdi, who is former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said in a Facebook posting that he had already garnered 73 votes.
He is trailed by Senator Khairul Azwan Harun who has 58 votes, while Paya Besar Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah has 56 votes.
The elections for the Umno wings - Wanita, Youth and Puteri, ran for two days in 191 Umno divisions nationwide.
A total of 74 Umno division chiefs have won uncontested in the Umno polls, said party executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh on Saturday (June 23).
In a list provided to the media, among the division leaders who won uncontested were Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (Pekan), Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (Sembrong) and Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed (Jeli).
The official results of the Umno wings elections will be announced at 5pm on Sunday, said party executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusof.
