PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A three-year-old girl was found dead with about 30 stab wounds on her body late on Monday night (June 18) at a house in Taman Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
She was believed to have been murdered by a relative.
Sentul OCPD Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy said the girl's grandmother found her, draped in a white cloth and covered in blood.
He said: "The suspect, a relative, had earlier come by their house in Taman Kepong to play with the victim. Investigations by the doctor found around 30 stab wounds on the victim.
"After the police was notified of the incident, a team was sent to the scene and a 21-year-old man was arrested. We are still identifying a motive."
Mr Munusamy added that they would check to see if the suspect had any history of mental illness.
"When the victim was found, the suspect was still in the house playing with another baby," he said.
A postmortem is expected to be conducted on Tuesday at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
