KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Three men have been detained in connection with the RM8 million (S$2.7 million) theft at a major currency wholesaler in Kuala Lumpur.
City Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Luthfi Ismail Abdullah, said the three men, aged 33, 41 and 47, were arrested to assist in the investigation.
In an exclusive report, The Star reported some moneychangers in the city could be facing supply problems after the theft.
The currency wholesaler in the moneychanging industry is a parent agency that distributes cash to other outlets.
According to sources, a staff member absconded with the money, which was meant to be distributed to other agencies on Friday (Jan 26).
Those in the trade assured consumers there is enough currency in the market to meet demand.
