BATU PAHAT, Johor – A teenage pillion rider on a motorcycle died in an accident involving six vehicles on Malaysia’s North-South Expressway near Ayer Hitam in Johor.
Batu Pahat police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the pile-up, involving three motorcycles, an express bus, a car and a van, took place at the 75.6km mark southbound of the expressway at around 2.30am on Oct 12.
“Initially, a three-motorcycle accident took place, which caused one of the riders, a 16-year-old boy and the 14-year-old pillion rider, to be flung onto the road,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Shahrulanuar said in a statement.
“After that, the bus, car and van travelling along the expressway could not avoid the crash site in time and collided with each other.” .
He said the 14-year-old, Muhammad Ammar Zafran Khairul Nizam, suffered severe injuries to his head and limbs, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 16-year-old rider was taken to hospital for medical attention for his injuries, he added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
