A six-year-old boy was bitten by a python while using a toilet in his four-storey home in Malaysia on Feb 11.
According to Malaysian media outlets, the boy, identified as Hadi, was bitten after he lifted the lid of the toilet bowl in the master bedroom of his home in Kuala Lumpur.
The snake was hiding underneath the lid.
His mother told Malay Mail: “I was cooking in the kitchen when I heard him scream and saw him run out of the room, bleeding. He told me he was bitten by a snake so I rushed to get help from neighbours who called for an ambulance and contacted the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).”
The boy was rushed to Ampang Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
His mother told news outlets that Hadi suffered bite wounds on his inner thigh and hand. Doctors said he was in a stable condition.
She added that their house is near a zoo and a forest, and that the reptiles were a common sight in the area.
Reticulated pythons are native to South-east Asia, and are among the largest snakes in the world that can reach lengths of up to 7m and weigh up to 75kg.
Gombak District’s APM told Malay Mail that it was alerted to the incident at about 12.45pm. A team of four officers captured the python and took it back to its office. It is not known if it has been released back into the wild.
