A Singaporean woman was arrested for hurling abusive words at traffic police officers when she was issued a summons during a roadblock at the Second Link.

Iskandar Puteri’s officer-in-charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police M. Kumarasan, said in a statement on Sept 28 that the car, driven by the 29-year-old suspect, was stopped at a roadblock at the 3.8km mark of the highway in Gelang Patah at 8.30pm on Sept 27.

The Second Link is a bridge and expressway connecting Tuas in Singapore to Gelang Patah in Johor, Malaysia.

“During the inspection, the suspect refused to cooperate. She also verbally abused the officers on duty after being informed that a Pol 257 summons would be issued against her for illegally modifying her car’s exhaust system,” ACP Kumarasan said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out their duty, an offence punishable with up to two years’ jail, a fine of up to RM10,000 (S$3,060), or both upon conviction.

“She is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using insulting words intended to hurt feelings or cause a breach of peace, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM100,” he said.

“In addition, she is under investigation for violating Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959 / 62 for not having valid documents to remain in Malaysia, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ jail, a fine of up to RM10,000, or whipping of not more than six strokes, or any two of these punishments.”

ACP Kumarasan reminded the public to obey the law and cooperate with the police when they are carrying out their duties.

“The police remain committed to preventing and combating crime. Those with information on criminal activities are urged to contact the nearest police station, the Iskandar Puteri district control centre on 07-5113622, or the hotline on 07-5114486,” he added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
