KOTA KINABALU - While many were ushering in the Year of the Snake, a family in Ranau, in the Malaysian state of Sabah, found themselves calling the fire and rescue department to deal with an unexpected guest – an actual reptile under their house.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Services Station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said a team of five was rushed to Kampung Maukab Baru Lohan after receiving a distress call at around 8.30pm on Jan 28.
The team arrived at the scene, some 13km away from the station, shortly after.
“We found the slithering cobra, about 2.1m to 2.5m-long, curled under their house. The team captured the reptile using a snare.
“The odds of an actual snake paying a ‘house visit’ as we celebrate the Year of the Snake are certainly an unexpected turn of events,” said the chief.
After securing the area, the operation was concluded by 9pm. No casualties were reported, and the family could safely usher in the New Year without any reptile interruptions. THE STAR/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK
