The Malaysian police have arrested a Singaporean man after he was allegedly involved in a road rage incident in Johor on June 7.
The 40-year-old man was arrested at 6.20pm on June 8 by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru North police headquarters.
The police also seized several items, said Johor Bahru North police chief Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh in a June 8 statement.
He said a 31-year-old Malaysian man had made a police report over the June 7 incident, claiming that on that day, a person in a Singapore-registered Toyota Altis had honked his car horn at him.
Assistant Commissioner Balveer said the Singaporean was dissatisfied that the man’s BMW had allegedly blocked his path in the Taman Tun Aminah area.
“An argument took place and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant’s car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,” AC Balveer said.
Videos of the incident went viral on social media.
AC Balveer said checks on the Singaporean revealed that he has no prior criminal record, and he tested negative for drugs.
The man was taken to a court in Johor Bahru on the morning of June 9 for a remand application under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult).
The Johor Bahru Magistrate Court granted a police application for him to be detained until June 12 to assist with investigations.
According to a report in Malaysia’s China Press, the man, wearing a purple detention uniform and black shoes, used his right hand to cover his face upon seeing members of the media at the court.
