Singapore man burned to death in Johor car crash: Malaysia police

The charred body of a driver was found on Monday morning after a car caught fire opposite a petrochemical plant in Jalan Pekeliling Industrial Park in Johor, Malaysia.

The man who died was a 62-year-old Singaporean, according to the local police, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said it received an emergency call regarding the incident on Monday at around 11.15am.

Acting chief of Pasir Gudang fire station Sarhan Akmal Mohamad told Malaysian newspaper The Star that 10 firemen were deployed to the scene.

The car – believed to be a Nissan Almera – crashed into a tree on the side of the road and then burst into flames.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle and upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Johor Fire and Rescue Department found him dead.

Rescue tools were used to remove the victim’s charred body from the car.

Investigations are ongoing.
