JOHOR BAHRU - Malaysian police fired several shots when a car rammed into their patrol vehicle while they were conducting routine checks at a housing area on July 18.
District police chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, when a team of policemen flagged a motorcycle for inspection at around 12.20pm.
“While the inspection was happening, a car approached the police vehicle and crashed into it.
“The suspects’ car almost hit the policemen who were on duty. In self-defence, the policemen fired several shots at the vehicle,” he said in a press statement on July 19.
Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi said the police arrested the three suspects in the car, and all of them had prior criminal and drug records.
The three suspects, aged 24 to 45, also tested positive for methamphetamine and were remanded.
“We are searching for a 25-year-old suspect, Mohd Shakirin Mohd Samsudin, who is still at large, to aid in investigations,” added the district police chief.
The case was investigated for attempted murder, for obstructing a civil servant from performing his duties and for dangerous drug use. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
