Police in Thailand have arrested a Russian who was filmed having sex with a woman on a moving pickup truck on the Thai resort island of Phuket.

The 23-year-old man – identified only as Georgii – was arrested on Sept 25 at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok as he was attempting to leave Thailand, the Bangkok Post reported.

Police said Georgii is believed to be the man seen in a 15-second video that went viral across Thai social media late on Sept 24.

The video shows him and a woman, both naked, having sex at the back of a black pickup truck cruising down a road in Phuket.

The woman in the video was later identified as a 42-year-old Thai who works in Phuket, according to the Bangkok Post.

She said she was paid 1,000 baht (S$40) to appear in the video that she was told was meant for Georgii’s Russian viewers.

Police said the Russian is an adult content creator, having had a history of posting explicit videos on social media.

A motorist recorded the indecent act that stoked outrage online.

“Catch them and deport them immediately. They should be blacklisted forever,” fumed one Thai commenter.

“The only thing I’m concerned about is young witnesses on the road,” added another. “Punish them harshly, not just with a fine.”

Lieutenant-Colonel Ekachai Siri, chief of the Phuket tourist police, said Georgii faces charges of public indecency and may also be prosecuted under the Computer Crime Act, if he has circulated the video online for profit.

Colonel Chatree Chukaew, chief of the Muang Phuket police station, recommended that the Immigration Bureau at least revoke Georgii’s visa and put him on a blacklist, barring future entry into Thailand.

Performing an obscene act in a public place carries a fine of up to 5,000 baht, he said.

People have been spotted having sex in public in Thailand in the past, including an incident in 2024 where two tourists were caught on video fornicating along a “family-friendly” stretch of a beach in Pattaya.

This latest roadside romp in Phuket has locals calling for tough action.

One netizen summed up the outrage: “If Thai officials ignore this case, the country will be embarrassed. Don’t let them insult us.”
