Popular Malaysian shopping mall The Mines reassured customers that business is as usual, after a heavy thunderstorm caused a flash flood affecting the mall’s first level on Nov 15.
The five-storey Seri Kembangan mall, known for its canal that flows through the ground level, is one of Kuala Lumpur’s go-to places for locals and tourists.
The mall’s management said in a Facebook post on Nov 15 that a heavy storm caused a flash flood around the mall at about 4pm that day.
The water entered the mall and affected “some areas” in the South Zone on Level 1, it said.
The management noted that its team responded immediately and most of the affected tenants were able to resume business by 7.30pm – around three hours after the incident.
“The mall continues to be open for business as usual,” the management said, adding that the safety and comfort of shoppers and tenants remain a priority.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their understanding.”
In a TikTok video, the first floor of the mall can be seen flooded with ankle-deep water, with shoppers wading their way through.
