Ms Geraldine Mojares left the Philippines in 1994 to work as a nurse at a hospital in Houston, Texas.
It was not a difficult decision to make. She earned just 6,000 pesos (S$166) a month at a university hospital in Manila. The hospital in Houston offered her up to US$50,000 a year.
