Philippine President Duterte to meet Malaysia PM Mahathir next week

MANILA (PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER/ASIA NEWS NETWORK)- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Malaysia next week to talk with newly-elected Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the presidential palace said on Monday (July 9).

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Mr Duterte and Tun Dr Mahathir had a phone conversation before the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang.

"(I) had telephone talk with Mahathir before (the) Cabinet meeting. He wants to talk about (Muslim) insurgency (in Mindanao) and ISIS. We will be there July 16. After boxing, will talk with Mahathir," Mr Roque quoted Mr Duterte as saying.

The President was referring to the boxing match between Philippine boxing champion and senator Manny Pacquiao and Argentinian boxer Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (July 15).
