Fandom wars make riveting headlines. Social media platform X in the Philippines erupted into a ruckus as two of the country’s biggest fan groups collided mid-year – thanks to a veteran journalist’s remarks about a rising Filipino pop group finally breaking onto the international scene.

Broadcaster Karen Davila said during the July 23 episode of the country’s prime-time news show TV Patrol that the eight-member, all-girl group Bini was “opening the door” for Pinoy pop, or P-pop, to the world stage.
