Myanmar bid to change charter leaves ground unchanged

Myanmar's Parliament concludes tomorrow a marathon series of votes on more than 100 proposed amendments to its Constitution. It will leave nearly everything in the junta-drafted 2008 charter intact.

Given the military's 25 per cent quota of parliamentary seats, observers say the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party had merely gone through the motions of constitutional reform ahead of the next election expected in November.
