Medium-strength quake hits near Philippine island

MANILA (REUTERS) - A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck in the Philippines on Saturday (May 5), the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake, which hit at a depth of 30 km (18 miles), about 50 km north-northwest of Pandan, on the island of Catanduanes.

USGS earlier put the quake at a strength of 6.4.
