BANGKOK A 37-year-old man from Thailand’s Buri Ram province became an internet sensation this week after a photo of his marriage certificate tattooed on his upper left arm went viral on Facebook.

The photo quickly attracted more than a million likes and thousands of comments.

Mr Nu said the tattoo, done in January, was a celebration of his 19-year marriage with his 37-year-old wife. The couple have a daughter, 16, and a son, seven.

“Throughout these years we have lived together happily and never had a big fight. My wife is a very understanding person,” he said.

Mr Nu and his wife obtained a marriage certificate from the Muang Buri Ram district office in 2019.

Buri Ram is situated in the lower part of the north-eastern region, about 410km from Bangkok.

Mr Nu said the tattoo cost him 2,500 baht (S$92), adding that even the tattoo artist was surprised by his decision to have a marriage certificate inscribed onto his body.

“I don’t really care what other people think, as long as I make my family happy,” he said.

Many comments on Facebook praised the man for expressing his love and loyalty in a bold way, while others were concerned that things could become awkward if the couple were to break up in the future. THE NATION/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
