BATU PAHAT - A 33-year-old man was killed while his wife was injured after being involved in a car crash at a traffic light junction in Yong Peng, Johor.
Batu Pahat police chief Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said that the accident occurred at 10.30am when the traffic lights at the Taman Kota junction were malfunctioning.
He added that the incident was captured on CCTV with the footage shared on social media.
“The collision involved an SUV travelling from Taman Kota and a pickup truck coming from Ayer Hitam.
“The SUV was driven by a 20-year-old man, while the pickup truck was driven by a 33-year-old man, accompanied by his 31-year-old wife.
“Tragically, the pickup truck driver, identified as Muhamad Sufaat Bin Sobakin, 33, from Kampung Parit Jayus 6, Sri Medan, was severely injured and pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials,” he said in a statement on Feb 15.
He added that a post-mortem examination conducted at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail Batu Pahat determined the cause of death as “multiple injuries consistent with motor vehicle collision”.
“His wife sustained a broken left arm and leg injuries and is receiving treatment at HSNI Batu Pahat. The SUV driver was unharmed,” he added.
Police have classified the case as causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The authorities urge witnesses or anyone with information about the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
