JASIN - A 24-year-old man was brutally murdered in a gangland-style attack at a hospital in Melaka as medical staff and patients looked on in horror.
Jasin district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jamil Radzi, said the victim was first attacked by a group of masked men armed with machetes at a barber shop in Taman Rim Baru at about 8.40pm on Aug 25.
“The injured victim managed to contact his 22-year-old brother to drive him to the Jasin Hospital to seek medical attention.
“However, upon arriving at the emergency department of the hospital, the assailants returned and again started to attack him mercilessly, and even smashed the windscreen of the car,” he said on Aug 26.
DSP Ahmad Jamil said the victim’s brother fled the scene and sought shelter at the Jasin police headquarters where he also lodged a police report.
The victim died of his injuries at about 10.15pm on Aug 25.
DSP Ahmad Jamil said an ambulance parked at the emergency unit was also damaged in the fracas.
He added that three suspects aged between 21 and 31 were detained on Aug 26. The police have launched a manhunt to track down two more suspects who are still at large.
“We have obtained a seven-day remand order on all three to assist in investigations under Section 320 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.
DSP Ahmad Jamil said the police are looking into whether the attackers’ motive was related to a feud between triad members or vengeance.
“The brutality of the attack was also videoed by eyewitnesses at the scene,” he added. THE STAR/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK
