PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has announced that the first Parliament meeting of the 14th Dewan Rakyat, or Lower House, will commence on July 16.

"In that time, we will discuss several papers and work on repealing several laws as we promised," said Tun Dr Mahathir on Wednesday (June 6), after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

He said that the Dewan Rakyat will sit for 20 days.

"The goods and services tax (GST) will be abolished. The Anti-Fake News Act will also be abolished, as well as the other laws we promised," he said.

Dr Mahathir said that the Parliament sitting on July 16 - the first after the May 9 general election - will also include the speech from the King and the swearing in of MPs.
