Malaysian prosecutors challenge acquittal of Najib Razak’s wife Rosmah

Malaysian prosecutors filed an appeal against a court decision acquitting Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, of money laundering and tax evasion charges.
The appeal was filed Dec 20, and it encompasses the entirety of the High Court’s decision, Malaysia’s Attorney-General said in a statement posted on X.
Malaysia’s High Court on Dec 19 acquitted Rosmah of 17 charges involving 7.1 million ringgit (S$2.1 million), a decision that she hailed as a birthday gift to herself and her husband, who remains behind bars for crimes related to troubled state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad. Rosmah turned 73 on Dec 10.
Rosmah is separately appealing against her guilty conviction over a graft case and faces a lawsuit over luxury goods allegedly linked to 1MDB. BLOOMBERG
