A man went to the extent of putting on a hijab, feminine footwear and nail polish to sneak into a women’s toilet in a Johor supermarket on Sunday to allegedly record voyeuristic videos, the local police said.

In a viral video, the suspect is seen being held down by a man in a shop while a woman angrily asks him for his phone’s passcode.

He allegedly had more than 40 recordings taken inside women’s toilets on his phone, according to the original poster.

In the video that has been viewed more than 1.5 million times, the man is also asked to put on the headscarf he was caught with and show his painted toenails to the camera. He obliges begrudgingly.

“I don’t know why my brain is like this today. I’m so embarrassed,” the man tells the people in the shop as he sits on the floor waiting for the police. He also claims he is married and begs to be released.

Malaysian police said on Monday that a 23-year-old man was apprehended by members of the public for “stalking behaviour” in a women’s toilet on Sunday at the Kip Mall in the Masai neighbourhood of Pasir Gudang, Johor. He had no past criminal offences.

The man is suspected of gross indecency and faces a two-year jail term, the police added. Investigations are ongoing.
