PETALING JAYA - RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia) has issued a second apology for misidentifying a foreign national leader in its live telecast of the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits on Oct 26.

Hours after misidentifying the Indonesian President, RTM apologised for misidentifying Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong as his predecessor Lee Hsien Loong.

“RTM views the matter seriously, and the appropriate actions will be taken. RTM apologises to the Prime Minister and the Singaporean government as well as all affected by this mistake,” it said in a statement on Sunday.

It added that it would increase editorial oversight and fact-checking to ensure all information broadcast was accurate.

Earlier the same afternoon, RTM’s broadcast commentator mentioned the current Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as Joko Widodo. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
