Malaysia welcomes Qatar Emir for two-day visit

KUALA LUMPUR (BERNAMA) - Malaysia on Monday (Oct 16) officially welcomed Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is on his first state visit to the country, in a ceremony at Parliament Square in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was graced by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V. Also in attendance was Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Sheikh Tamim and Datuk Seri Najib later met for closed-door talks at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in the administrative capital Putrajaya, which was followed by a meeting between the two delegations.

After their meeting, Sheikh Tamim and Najib witnessed the signing of four MOUs in the fields of training for diplomats, higher education, legal and judicial cooperation.

Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, also hosted a luncheon in honour of the visit.

The Qatari monarch, who arrived on Sunday, is also scheduled to grace a state banquet at the Istana Negara in the evening.

The two-day visit is being held at the invitation of Sultan Muhammad V.
