PETALING JAYA – Highway users in Malaysia will enjoy a 50 per cent toll discount in conjunction with Chinese New Year festivities.

The reduction will apply only for private vehicles at all toll plazas, except at the two entry points in Johor – the Sultan Iskandar Building at the North-South Expressway and the Second Link in Tanjung Kupang.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision to reduce tolls by half was made during a Cabinet meeting on Jan 24.

The discounts would be valid for 48 hours from 12.01am on Jan 27 to 11.59pm on Jan 28.

He added that the government would pay an estimated RM20.08 million (S$6.18 million) to compensate concessionaires for the discount.

“The discount is a continuation of the festive season toll assistance that has been provided by the government for all four major festive seasons in the peninsula since 2023,” he said.

The government has spent RM356.18 million in compensation for toll concessionaires during festive seasons from 2023 to 2024.

On Jan 21, Mr Nanta said 2024 would be the final year for the festive season toll exemptions, with the Cabinet deciding to find a more targeted approach.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Jan 23 the toll exemptions should be provided only to the middle and lower income groups.

The last time full toll exemptions were given was during Christmas in 2024.

Mr Nanta advised people to download the MyPLUS-TTA app to ensure a smooth driving experience “so we can all safely reach our destinations this Chinese New Year”.
